Movement & Dance

Dancer and Choreographer Libby Seward has run programmes of weekly movement workshops for both the clients of the Department of Psychiatry in Waterford Regional Hospital and of St. Patrick's Hospital for older people, Waterford.

The sessions, which aimed to encourage communication between patients, provided a platform for improvised movement within the structured format of the workshop. Music helps to generate ideas for movement by individual participants which are then shared with the group.  Music and creative movement is also closely linked to reminiscence, particularly for older people

The sessions, which operated on a drop-in basis, responded to the needs of the group, and therefore varied from week to week depending on the participants.

Libby Seward is a professional dancer who has considerable experience in the field of community dance.  Libby also facilitated an innovative dance and movement project in partnership with the Physiotherapy Department and Backcare Clinic of WRH in 2004/5 entitled Back to Dance.
