Musique et Santé -
April 2006
Philippe Bouteloup, Director of Musique et Santé, France, gave a lunchtime talk
about the work of this innovative arts and health organisation in Waterford
Regional Hospital. Based in Paris, Musique et Santé is a not-for-profit
organization, which has been bringing live music by professional musicians into
hospitals and organisations working for people with disabilities throughout
France since its establishment in 1998.
This talk was followed on the same day by an Open Forum workshop and discussion
for patients, staff, carers, visitors and the general public. The Forum offered
an insight into the Trust’s Music in Hospitals programme which has been brought
about through a partnership with ARTS for HEALTH (England), and Musique et
Santé. Three professional musicians from each participating country partook in
innovative residencies in hospitals in Waterford, England and France. Each
residency explored the role of music in a hospital setting, and the project
culminated in a major international seminar in Paris in July 2006.
