Art of the Mature Mind
In May 2006, the Waterford Healing Arts Trust hosted Art of the Mature Mind , a
lunchtime talk by Olive Knox from the National Gallery of Ireland.
Olive spoke about art made by artists in their latter years through the
centuries beginning with Caravaggio and Rembrandt, through to the eighteenth
century artists Casper David Frederic and James Arthur O’Connor. She also looked
at the work of German Expressionist artists Wassily Kandinskiy and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff
and that of Pablo Picasso who created art well into his 80’s, and thus
illustrated that artists never retire!
Olive is an art historian who has lectured and tutored at the National Gallery
of Ireland for a number six years. She also lectures in Art Appreciation at St.
Nicholas's Montessori College in Dun Laoghaire.
This was the final talk of the Trust’s Spring lunchtime series and linked in
with Bealtaine, the nationwide Festival which celebrates creativity and older
age.
