President & founding member passes away
It was with great sadness that we learned over the weekend of the passing of Mary Baxter, President and founding member of Waterford Healing Arts Trust.
Mary was an extraordinary individual; a force of nature with an insatiable appetite for life, a strong sense of justice, a vibrant imagination, a tireless commitment to the arts and a deep compassion, kindness and generosity towards others. Mary fulfilled many roles in her long, fascinating and rich life. With Waterford Healing Arts Trust, these included founder member, fundraiser, champion, networker, Treasurer, Chairperson and, until her passing, President. She was an active member of the UHW/Waterford Healing Arts Trust Tapestry Group and, until the onset of the pandemic, was a regular, vibrant presence here in our centre every Monday morning.
Mary always had an encouraging word to go along with her many new ideas for progressing our work and took great joy and satisfaction from the commemoration of our 25th anniversary in 2018. A wonderful character, it was our great privilege to have enjoyed her presence, advice, humour, style and leadership throughout our organisation’s lifetime.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Mary’s husband Douglas and to all her family at this very sad time. May she rest in peace. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.
