We haven’t had an earthquake lately…

Fancy a feel-good evening of reading?

Do you turn to a good book or poem to lift your spirits or be inspired?  If yes, we hope you’ll join us for We haven’t had an earthquake lately…., the flagship event of the Well Festival of Arts & Wellbeing which celebrates the joy of reading, taking place online on Friday 9 October.

Claire Meaney, Director of Waterford Healing Arts Trust, explains “Earthquake is one of our most popular events every year, with a great number of keen Waterford readers seeking to share their favourite feel good writings with the wider public in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Moving Earthquake online for this year is necessary to keep everyone safe and, while we’ll miss the lovely venue in the well of The Book Centre, we’re thrilled to still be able to come together. We’re delighted that Catherine Drea, artist, photographer and writer, returns to be our Guest MC again this year, and we’re also extremely grateful to The Book Centre Waterford for their kind and loyal sponsorship”.

Now in its eighth year, the Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing champions and celebrates the health benefits of participation in the arts by everyone.  Taking place in Waterford from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 October, the festival features an exciting line-up of almost 50 fun, free, inventive and sociable arts events for all ages, with musicians, artists, poets, theatre makers, filmmakers and dancers, a programme of Wellies, the festival’s events for younger audiences and Renew, a new programme strand for older audiences.  The full Festival programme is available from www.wellwaterford.com  See also the Well Festival promo trailer here

Due to the evolving Covid-19 situation and in line with public health guidelines, many events this year are taking place online, giving this Waterford-wide festival the opportunity to reach beyond the county borders for the first time and welcome arts fans from near and far.  Each day, festival-goers have the opportunity to witness colourful, beautiful, thought-provoking music, art, theatre, film, dance and literature, and to experience the joy of creativity through a myriad of workshops and interactive opportunities for all ages.

The Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing is funded by the Arts Council, the HSE and Waterford City and County Council, with generous support from Sanofi.  Renew: Arts and Older People, the new programme strand for 2020, is funded by Creative Ireland under their Creativity in Older Age programme.  The festival is presented by Waterford Healing Arts Trust, Garter Lane Arts Centre and Waterford City and County Libraries.  The full festival programme is available at www.wellwaterford.com  See the Well Festival also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.   “We haven’t had an earthquake lately” is a quote from Winnie the Pooh, by AA Milne.
