Announcing details of the Bumper Raffle, Shirley O’Shea, Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee of Waterford Healing Arts, said “With this Bumper Raffle, we’re raising funds especially for our Healing Sounds on the Wards live music programme. It’s a really special part of what we do.  Professional musicians go right to the bedsides of patients at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and play live music to help lift spirits and ease feelings of isolation, anxiety, or stress.  It reaches everyone, from young children in the paediatric ward, to older people living with dementia, to patients in oncology and renal dialysis, and even those receiving palliative care.  It’s about bringing moments of comfort, normality and connection through music, when people need it most. The benefits are very clear, so we’re calling on the generous people of Waterford to support us in our efforts to keep this programme going”.

Claire Meaney, Director of Réalta/Waterford Healing Arts, added “We are incredibly grateful to our generous raffle sponsors for their support. Thanks to them, we have some fantastic prizes, including a voucher for FBD Hotels, an original painting by Dr Grace Chan, an annual membership to Mount Congreve Gardens & Country Estate, a lunch voucher for two at Everett’s Restaurant, a private backstage tour of Theatre Royal Waterford for six people, a round of golf for four at Waterford Castle and a deluxe hamper filled with goodies.”

The Waterford Healing Arts programmes bring arts experiences – music, visual art, creative writing and storytelling – to patients at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and other healthcare settings.  These arts and health programmes promote creativity, connection and discovery and seek to reduce isolation, anxiety and stress for patients, family members and staff, and are delivered by professional artists in partnership with healthcare professionals.  Waterford Healing Arts programmes are part of Réalta, the national resource organisation for arts + health in Ireland.  Réalta is core funded by the Arts Council and the HSE.  www.waterfordhealingarts.com  | www.realta.ie
